The Koda Interview.
Koda Kerl is a busy guy. Along with his wife Marie Borgman he’s built Charlottesville’s most popular touring band, Chamomile and Whiskey. He has a solo album in the works. He plays keys, guitar and sings harmonies in his buddies’ bands including Jesse Fiske’s Jesse’s Houze. And he handles booking at the small but mighty beating heart of Charlottesville’s local music scene, Durty Nelly’s, where he’s nurturing a vibrant new generation of local musical talent.
All that gives him a 360 degree, mile-high perspective on just how tough the music scene has become for our bands, venues and fans. Last Monday night, before hosting a kick-ass songwriter’s showcase with his friends Michael Coleman of Free Union and Matthew McCallister, Koda agreed to sit down for a discussion of what’s going on out there.
And he gives us some much needed reasons to feel good about where the scene is headed.
