The Importance of Being Bob Taylor.

Almost a year ago in a blog post on Chamomile and Whiskey’s St Paddy’s Day show at the Jeff, we wrote “If Charlottesville is blessed with an intoxicating abundance of great local music, and we are, Nelson county is the still.”

In the year since, we’ve asked the question over and over. What the hell is going on in Nelson County that produces so much musical talent? Four of our finest bands right now came from one Nelson County High School cohort, for crying out loud.

We get a little closer to an answer in this discussion with Bob Taylor who along with his wife Carolyn (and daughter), created Rapunzels’ Coffee and Book Shop in Lovingston, a venue so many Nelson County Bands have called home at one time or another.

Bob opines it may be the amethyst in Priest Mountain. He says It definitely comes from the vein of Bluegrass music that runs thru our Blue Ridge Mountains. And he says that generations of deeply artistic parents have handed down musical tradition in so many Nelson County homes.

But we think it might be Bob, too. Those Four Nelson County bands we mentioned?

Koda Kerl, Kai-Crowe Getty, Eli Cook, and Sally Rose Monnes.

Bob booked their first gigs.
