Now. The first Wreckfest Band we’ve been able to catch as we get closer to festival time is the Curry’s.
Last Thursday, we caught The Currys in their classic trio form at Durty Nelly’s.The eclectic DN crowd was packed with friends, family, Charlottesville music fans and beloved locals.
This Cville outfit is a harmony-driven trio made up of family bros Tommy (guitar, vocals) and Jimmy (guitar, vocals), along with their cousin Galen (bass, vocals). Since forming in 2013, the band has made a name for themselves with their rich vocal blends, heartfelt songwriting, and an easy chemistry.
Each member writes and sings, adding variety and emotional range to their live sets and recordings. When all three sing together, it’s something special – tight, warm, and instantly recognizable.
It was clear from the get-go that this would be a fun night of music.
The two-set performance lingered late into the night, with a mix of originals and really clever covers – like Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl) by Looking Glass. There was a playful, almost yacht-rock vibe to parts of the night and the musicianship was sharp, the mood was right, and the Currys are funny and fun guys.
The Currys will be ready to bring the harmonies, the hooks, and the heart to IX Art Park this September. A major reason to Wreck!
Stay tuned as we feature more bands that will be making Wreckfest a must-see, must-be-there, talk-about-it-for-years event.
See you there!
